Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a free online tool provided by Google that allows teachers to create assignments, grade them, and collect data about students' progress. Students have access to their own personal accounts where they can view their grades, submit homework, and communicate with their teachers. Teachers can use the platform to assign work, monitor student progress, and interact with students.

Student Privacy Concerns

Although Google Classroom does not share any personally identifiable information with third parties, some parents may still be concerned about how much information their children's schools are collecting. Parents should know that Google Classroom only collects basic student information including name, email address, and date of birth. However, if a parent wants to review what their child's school is doing with their data, they can request access to their child's account.

Google Classroom uses two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect your account. You’ll need to enable 2FA before you can sign in. By default, 2FA requires a text message code sent to your phone. If you don't have a mobile number associated with your account, you'll need to add one. 3. When you're signed in, you can view and edit your class information, including the name of the class, the date and time the class starts and ends, and the course description. You can also set the grading policy for each student enrolled in the class.

Data Collection

Google collects two types of data: (1) information that students provide voluntarily, including their names, emails, and usernames, and (2) information that Google obtains automatically.

Location Tracking

Google collects location data based on the IP addresses of devices accessing the service. If a device connects to the Internet via a mobile network, Google collects the location of the device at the time of connection. If a device connects via Wi-Fi, Google collects the location at the time of the request.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on users' hard drives. Google uses cookies to collect information about how students use the Google Classroom feature. Google uses these cookies to help improve the user experience and analyze the effectiveness of the Google Classroom service.

Google provides links to third-party services on its website. These third parties may place cookies on your browser, collect data, and/or track your activities on our websites.

Children

Children under 13 years old cannot consent to the collection of personal information. Parents should review the Google Classroom privacy policy before allowing their children to use the service
